If your dog’s behavior is creating stress at home, on walks, or during public outings, the answer is not more random advice. It is better structure, clearer communication, and a plan you can actually follow.
Our in-home dog behavior consultation is designed for owners dealing with reactivity, aggression, anxiety, leash pulling, barking, jumping, counter-surfing, and other behavior problems. We help you understand what is driving the behavior, improve communication, and start building better habits in your home and day-to-day situations.
Looking for a Dog Behaviorist in Yorkville or Oswego?
Many owners search for a dog behaviorist when they are dealing with bigger behavior issues like reactivity, fear, aggression, or ongoing household stress. Our Behavioral Consultation is built for exactly that kind of problem-solving.
We do not believe in labeling dogs as stubborn, bad, or hopeless. Most behavior issues come back to communication, structure, follow-through, and unmet needs. This session helps you understand what your dog is showing you, what needs to change, and how to lead more clearly at home and in public settings.
In a world full of chaos, find your connection.
What Makes Our Approach Different
At Training That Lasts, we are not interested in quick fixes that fall apart the second life gets busy.
We focus on:
- Connection before chaos
- Clear communication
- Calm leadership
- Follow-through that makes sense
- Structure that supports better decisions
- Proofing in home and public settings
Behavior problems are often a relationship problem before they become a training problem. When the relationship gets clearer, the dog gets clearer. That is why our work centers on Communication, Trust, and Connection.
Behavior Problems We Help With
Our Behavioral Consultation is a strong fit for owners dealing with:
- Reactivity on leash
- Aggression toward dogs or people
- Fearful or anxious behavior
- Barking and overarousal
- Jumping on guests
- Counter-surfing and pushy household habits
- Poor boundaries in the home
- Leash pulling
- Difficulty settling
- Inconsistent listening
- Overexcitement during walks or outings
- General behavior problems that keep repeating
Whether the issue feels mild or overwhelming, the goal is the same: help you create more clarity, more structure, and more trust.
What Happens During the Consultation
This is a 2-hour, in-home session designed to look at the full picture.
We cover:
- Structure and boundaries in the home
- Verbal and non-verbal communication
- Proper leash handling
- Mental and physical fulfillment
- Canine body language and psychology
- How your dog is responding to your timing, handling, and follow-through
- Hands-on troubleshooting for the issues you are dealing with right now
Weather permitting, we work inside and outside so we can coach you where the behavior is actually happening. This is not just a conversation. It is practical, hands-on, and built around what your dog needs and what you need to do differently moving forward.
We train the owner as much as the dog, because lasting change depends on both ends of the leash.
Why Start With a Behavioral Consultation?
A lot of owners come in feeling overwhelmed because they have already tried tips from friends, videos, or scattered training advice online. The problem is not always effort. The problem is usually that nobody has shown them how all the pieces connect. This consultation gives you that starting point.
You will gain:
- A clearer understanding of your dog’s behavior
- Better handling and communication
- Specific changes to make at home
- Practical exercises to start right away
- A foundation for continued training, if needed
This is where we slow things down, clean up the confusion, and start building better habits with intention. Be proactive, not reactive.

I recently adopted a puppy and reached out to Training That Lasts for some training options. Dave was great when I called and listened to all of my concerns. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our consultation with Tyler! He was absolutely amazing—kind, patient, knowledgeable, and truly a natural when it comes to working with dogs. He taught me so much during our session and I walked away feeling more confident and better equipped to understand and work with my sweet puppy. You can tell that Tyler truly cares about dogs and wants to help both the dog and the owner succeed. This really sets this business apart from what I've experienced in the past. Needless to say, I highly recommend Training That Lasts to anyone looking for a dog trainer. You won’t regret reaching out to them, I promise! Thank you again for making our day :)Posted on Google![]()

Tyler is passionate and knowledgeable about his training program. During our initial consultation he educated us on the primary technique to train our puppy and older dog. It is a different approach than we have been previously educated on and it is too soon after our initial session to understand how we can change our practices and the results of his methods.Posted on Google![]()

We have a 6 month puppy that came to us and after two weeks we knew we needed help. Banks was scared and having trouble adapting to new surroundings. I knew this was something we needed help with and called around for trainers, I am so thankful for Dave who took my call and instantly knew this was the place I wanted to explore. Really took the time to learn about our situation, pricing was great and availability same week to come out. Tyler came out and after 3 hours there were improvements. Not kidding, this company knows the business, has the passion & drive and won us over. We will be continuing services with them and can’t want to see changes in our puppy so he can settle in his new forever home and be at peace in the loving home we have for him. I’m sure I’ll post again as we continue through growth/ progress.Posted on Google![]()

He came to the house to train my parents new puppy and it turned into a fun family venture, learned a lot in a short amount of time! Basically everything we were doing wrong… which I’m glad we met with him before it was too late for the puppy to get away with bad behavior. Got into the lessons right away, his structure was very organic and clearly communicated. A method of training them properly so that you don’t have to scold them or punish them. Only thing that I didn’t fully grasp was a timeline of how long these lessons should be enforced. And training with lots of treats seems concerning to me because then the puppy is constantly food crazy with the smells of treats around 24/7, kind of a double edge sword.Posted on Google![]()

My family and I had an appointment with Tyler for a one on one consultation/coaching with our 3yr old German Shepherd. We were interested in coaching/advising us (humans) versus just having a trainer take over. Tyler was very observant with how my family handled training our GSD and gave us pointers. Tyler is full of knowledge and insigh with dog nutrition. My family and I gained a lot from Tyler and changed up our training routine and saw a positive outcome in just a day. We will continue to lean on Tyler. Would highly recommend!Posted on Google![]()

We met with Tyler yesterday and I can already see a difference in my dogs behavior by implementing some of the training tips he taught us! The fact that he comes to the house for a behavior assessment is so useful because he is able to assess each individual dog and each individual situation and give tips based off of that. My puppy is pretty nervous around new people (something we are working on) and he knew right away what to do to get him to feel more comfortable and relaxed with a stranger in the house. He was also really great in getting my 5 y/o involved in the training (and being patient with her while she wanted to chat his ear off haha) and I liked how he used analogies that made it easy for both of us to understand how a dogs brain works. I really like how his focus is on positive reinforcement and building a trusting relationship with your dog. Offering the free pack walks on Wednesdays shows me he truly cares about the success of his clients and wants them to continue implementing what he has taught beyond the consultation. I can tell he has a lot of passion for what he does and is super knowledgeable. We are really looking forward to starting our group training and I can't wait to see the progress my boy makes!Posted on Google![]()

Tyler was thorough, patient, and made us feel comfortable asking questions and talking through scenarios. I'm already seeing the lessons he shared with us paying off. It's really more about training US, and us learning how to manage different situations with consistency and with the know-how he shared with us.Posted on Google![]()

We needed training for our 7 month old Boston Terrier, Coco. After reading great reviews, we decided to go with Training That Lasts. We were so impressed with Tyler! He is so knowledgeable and explains everything so well! Our pup is very timid so of course she wouldn’t get all crazy for him but we were able to take everything he said and start implementing right away. He gives a ton of info so definitely be ready to take notes! After ONE day we were already making progress! We know it’s a work in progress but Tyler definitely set us up with all the tools we need to do this. We definitely made the right choice!Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
