Dog-Friendly Events Across Chicagoland

Dogs are explicitly allowed but must remain on a leash no longer than six feet. This is a strong general-public outing with music, chairs, blankets, food, children and people moving throughout the park.

A free outdoor dog event with an agility course, treats, giveaways and dog caricatures. This should have considerable dog traffic, but the open plaza provides room to work farther from the center.

This dog-themed installment includes vendors, food trucks, live music and adoptable dogs from K9s4U Dog Rescue. Admission is free.

A structured workshop covering sit, down, stay, place, leave it, focus and name recognition. Attendance is limited, registration is required and vaccination rules apply.

An outdoor dog festival with artists, vendors, workshops, performances and playful dog competitions. The evening finishes with an outdoor screening of Best in Show.

Dachshunds compete in puppy, adult, senior and mixed-dachshund races. Dogs must be registered to race, but spectators can attend and watch.

Dogs are allowed on the Arboretum’s trails during designated admission days. Dogs must remain leashed, stay on marked trails and have current vaccinations and registrations. Dog admission is $7, or $6 for member dogs, plus regular human admission for nonmembers.

The open-air market includes produce, baked goods, prepared foods, handmade items and rotating vendors. The Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau identifies the market as pet-friendly.

Dogs take over the pool for a rescue fundraiser. Participating dogs must be friendly with dogs and people, leashed when required and current on vaccinations. A $15 donation is listed for entry.

The lower-level riverside area welcomes dogs every Monday through September, weather permitting.

Dogs are invited to attend with their handlers and sit in the lawn area. The event also includes Taco Tuesday and postgame activities, weather permitting.

This event includes games, an obstacle course, photos, activities and off-leash social play. Registration and vaccination documentation are required.

Dogs can participate in the pet parade and contest while handlers visit the surrounding farmers market.

The Slammers’ promotional schedule lists August 18 as Dog Day 2, and dogs receive free admission.

A ticketed dog-friendly rooftop gathering benefiting PAWS Chicago. The setting adds elevators, enclosed transition areas, unfamiliar surfaces and city noise.

A second structured workshop covering foundational obedience and handler communication. Registration is limited and vaccination requirements apply.

Another full-day opportunity to walk the Arboretum trails with leashed dogs.

A supervised gathering for dogs under 20 pounds, with size-appropriate play and a controlled small-dog environment.

Chicago’s largest dog-friendly charity event includes the walk/run, agility activities, raffles, entertainment, treats and dog pools. Registration is required.

Dogs are permitted in the concourse, reserved seating, lawn and Beer Garden areas. They are not allowed on the third floor, in private suites or inside the Jim Beam Club.
